How do you guys make frags of zoa's and other polyps? I have a few colonies that really need to be thined out. Do you just cut or scrape them off? Any tips would be great.

make sure you wear gloves and eye protection when fraggin zoas. I had one squirt me in the eye last time a mounted a frag. Fortunatly I washed it out right away, but my face felt numb for a little while.

ditto with the last post...zoas and plays are very toxic...there was a thread not too long ago of a gentleman near xxxxx

Just fragged some with a small screwdriver and hammer. Chiseled in between polyps to break them apart, and glued the pieces to frag plugs. Bonecutters can do the job too.

Jimbo, if it's a big enough colony you can just break the rock like they said. But if you're just trying to get a couple out you're going to want to get an exacto knife and cut them out.

Instead of cutting into the polyp, you want to cut as deep into the rock as possible. Once you've got it separated you want to put a drop of superglue gel on the rock and plop the zoa right on the glue. Push it down a bit with some pressure and drop the new frag in your tank so the glue insta-cures. Rinse and repeat until you've got all the polyps you want.

If you are gentle you can peel them right off the rock, make sure to include a small layer of rock/crust that usually will peel off with the polyps. After you peel them back, use an exacto knife to cut out the piece you peeled off.
