How to get an accurate temp reading

I'm trying to program my Aquacontroller and I'm getting different temps with four different methods.

Manual thermometer 73 degrees, Coralife Digital 69 degrees and the Aquacontroller 71 degrees, A/C thermostat 72.

How do I get one of them zeroed correctly?

Thanks in advance.

Fill a large glass up with plenty of ice and water. The water will be 33 degrees. This is the best way I have found to check and calibrate temperature sensing equipment.

Don't trust the corallife digitals. I bought 2 and they read 4 degrees different with the probes sise by side in the tank. The most consistant I have found are the little glass jobs with the suction cup you can get for $2.00.

Get one that is certified NIST calibrated.. Do a search on fleabay for them, and you should find some good Hanna lab grade thermometers pretty cheap ;)

the glass of icewater trick usually doesn' t work on aquarium thermometers as they dont' go down to 33 degrees.

Best to do, really is to take an average, and go by the average.. its really the change in temp that is deadly not what it is at a steady rate, unless its really high or low.

My pinpoint digital thermometer goes plenty low enough and so does my heater controller, they are both for aquariums.

Pat

It's actually 32 degrees. Ice melts and water freezes at 32. Latent heat: the energy required to change from one state to another at constant temperature....RRRRRRRR

Definitely...I'm getting a 84 reading but the water is feels colder than the one that reads 79!
