hey i have 2 clowns, and i just got a bubble tip from a friend. how do i go about getting my clowns to host it. They have never really hosted anything before.

Thanks

I agree. But the correct terminology is that the anemone (or coral or ?) hosts and the clowns associate. If you care.

Trying all different types of anemones til they take to one. My clowns took years to host. I tried all different types til one day someone traded me a sebae anemone. As soon as I put the sebae into the water they dove into it. My clowns wouldn't go near bubble tips

It also depends what clowns you have... they will more then likely go into a Natural Host alot faster like...

Maroon Clowns Natural host is Bubble Tips..

so if you have Percula or Ocellaris it could be awhile, some people have waited as long as a year, others have waited a couple of minutes...

One of my O clowns sort of associates with my RBTA. it will spend some time in it but doesnt live in it. the other one doesnt at all. Granted my RBTA is fairly small so there isnt a ton of room. It took a good month or two and suddenly it was interested in it

im pretty sure that i have ocellaris, i ope it isnt a year wait. Thanks Reef 1589

My ocellaris clowns took 2 months to be hosted by the anemone. It was right after the anemone split into three that my clowns wanted anything to do with it. But my outcome might not be your outcome.

I had my clowns with BTA's for over a year, never got them to associate. Put a H. Magnifica in the tank and the clowns were in it within 30 minutes.

Most people get false/true percs, and most people also get BTA's. That combination is not natural in the wild and can result in clowns that never associate with the nem. Like stated above other clowns will normally go straight into a BTA as it is their natural host.
