How to get my bubble anemone to become bubble?

Sometimes they just don't have bubble tips under certain conditions. It doesn't mean it is more or less healthy.

Well, I had a rose that split & I gave one to my friend. It was under 4xT5's. Now it's under 250w Halides. Mine is fully bubbled.
He kept his under a 1x150w + 2 PC's (not sure, a Coralife fixture) and it never bubbled up. Its currently under LED's and still not bubbled up.
We both do weekly / bi-weekly water changes - Gravity 1.025, his temp 78, mine is 80. All other parameters are good.
The only difference I can think of is the lighting that made his not want to bubble up.

There hasn't been any definitive reason why some bubble and some don't, unfortunately. I've even had one that half bubble and half not at one point.

I have a RBTA that moves around and some days it bubbles and others it doesn't. It does bubble more when it it closer to the top of the tank so I think more light helps mine bubble more. Maybe you can try that.

I have a RBTA that is about 12" across when fully extended in the day and he never bubbles anymore. When I first got him, he was really far down in the tank under T5s and bubbled and was very compact. In his current home, he's under 300W of LEDs, and maybe 6" under them, and he does not bubble, but is HUGE and hosts my large 3" saddleback.

The nem eats like a pig, is so super sticky, and healthy as could be. To me, it seems like bubbling or not means little to nothing about anything.

One theory is that the bubbles increase the surface area of the tentacles in ( relatively) low light situations for enhanced light capture. Sounds plausible I suppose. It could be worth trying various levels of shade ?

:) One of the grand mysteries of the world :)

+1 I have 20 BTA's in my tank of all varied colors and sizes. Some stay bubbled, some never really bubble much, and some bubble sometimes and not others. I have tried to figure it out continuously and have failed. A mystery.

I have a BTA that's house under 250watt MH she is about 6" from the surface in my tank, during the day when the halides are on all the tentacles look stringy when the halides turn off and the actinic stay on she bubbles up, pretty strange behavior!

One of my theories (yes, just my theory) is that is has something to do with buoyancy. I noticed that my BTA has bubble tips, but only on the top portion (the spot it liked was a vertical shelf). My guess is that it helps orientate it better to the light source, or current, or whatever general direction it feels like facing.

I do agree that bubble tips are not an indicator of the health of the nem.

FWIW, I have seen E. quads on the reef that were not bubbled.

I agree with Mike. Here's a couple photos...

This one is clearly not bubbled:

Here's one showing bubbled and non bubbled tips:

Here's a group of clones - mostly bubbled but some non-bubbled tentacles:

More clones - many non-bubbled tentacles:

Bottom line... I don't know what causes bubbling or absence of bubbling. I think it has something to do with light - in that the darker the environment the more likely a BTA appears to have no bubbles. But bright light is no guarantee that they will have bubbles. So who can say? :)
