How to get my Monti to make a flower Shape.

Hi Guys, I have a Monti and its doing great. I have it placed on top as of now so that it doesn't encrust yet. I want it to twirl and make a beautiful shape as I have seen others in tanks, but not sure about placement and such. Any cool ideas ? I have a pic of it sitting on top by the leather in the tank , so if anyone knows how to get this rolling, I'm all ears !!!!

Maybe try bring it down lower so that as it grows it "reaches" for the light. And that also allows you to put other corals on top. A large montipora shades a lot of estate which can also limit the area underneath it for corals.

By the looks of it, It is just starting to layer. Give it time. And yeah, you might want to put it lower. When it gets bigger it will start shading anything below it.

If you give it something to encrust up a bit it will grow up until it runs out of rock then plate out again. Like this.

mine looked just like that and once it starts growing it will take off in all directions. be careful though believe it or not it can be a problem when it over grows into and on top of corals

Most monti caps. will swirl with proper lighting and flow. Just make sure it is not an encrusting variety.

Wow, @Ros_sco, very beautiful indeed. That is a wonderful piece you have there. The running out of rock to expand upwards is a brilliant idea.

@Gregrocks, I love the mixing of the monti you have going on there. I am just starting out and have seen so many beautiful pieces from others it just blows my mind. Nice work on the purple-ing of that Monti ring...Fantastic.
