How To Get True Palythoas

Hello all ! I was wondering where one could get some Palythoa Caribaeorum, Palythoa Caesia, or any true Palythoas ? I use the term true Palythoa because I see people calling Zoanthids and the like Palythoas. If I am wrong about the terminology then please let me know. I have always liked these corals and have only come across them twice at a LFS. If anyone from Tampa is reading this then perhaps you know where I can get some. Thanx, Joe

i have a few frags of Palythoa Caesia...

I get them from AC. Here is one of their pics:

These are mine. Its an old picture when they were still recovering soon after I got them a couple of years ago.

They have been spreading veeery slowly. Do you know if these are normally slow growers?

I don't know how bad you want them but I will possibly have a frag eventually if you'd like to wait. For now I'm dealing with brown jelly or something.

I have some Caribaeorum. It seems to have finally found it's groove and is growing nicely. I'll be growing it off onto some rubble if you want to check back with me in a month or so.

Glad this thread was revived now. Some would say they aren't that colorful, but I'g gladly want to have something like this in my tank.

I've been looking for these as well, are they the same as is sold as "sea mats" from LiveAquaria? They had some nice green ones on Divers Den a few months back when I had no money of course.

Those are pretty cool, and I can honestly say I've never seen any like them before... I wouldn't mind getting my hands on some of these sometime soon.

We've seen it before ... and some do come from the Indo region as well. Most of it are Brown in coloration though. Do they ever some in other colors?

I saw a few Huge colonies of them at the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium just this past weekend. (Spring Break for the kids)

Thx,
Paul

most will be brown and tan... The AC ones pictured above have a light teal color on the oral disc. Hard to see in that pic though...

You will mostly see brown and tan due to Palythoas using sand in thier mat. That you can see in the AC picture i posted.

Thanx for the help fellow Reefers. I know they are primarily brown or shades of brown but I really like their look. When I set up the 30gal tank I saw a pic of them and fell instantly. I just like the look of the polyps and even though I have several different types of coral there will always be a space for one.
Thanx again

AC=Aqua Cultured.

I lucked into a piece on a ric frag I bough some time back (I'll see if i can get a good shot of it). They haven't really grown much for me, though. I think they don't draw much attention in the hobby, so they don't get collected as often. They seem to be everywhere on many Caribbean dives.
