how to id a mertins?

i am looking into a possible mertins carpet, but im not sure if the dealer is correct with his id. it has a green colum or foot, and i asked the dealer to look under the nem for any markings and he said there were some dots that ran down the colum/foot. other than that it is said to be yellow. looks bleached to me, and the tenticals are more stubby, unlike a gigantia. i can send a pic to someone if you think you can help, but the pic is not the best. thanks.

so sorry

so sorry

I know who and which one your talking about. Its a gigantea, its bleached and its way over priced. Mertens have short knobby tentacles.

Grossly overpriced anemoe. in the 249.99 range?

Vendors

Vendors

I am not bashing vendors but alot who sell upper end anemones never show pictures of the base or the verracruce. Listed as a "yellow" Mertensii

Here is it
Anemone

Until i see the base i cant even make a certain id.

It is a gigantea, not a merten's. The tentacles are stubby because it is stressed.

The verrucae on a merten's are orange or magenta and run all the way down to the foot, where they become more like stripes than spots. Merten's also tend to be a lot "sloppier" than haddoni or gigantea.

I can tell you that I looked for a merten's anemone for over 10 years in wholesalers anemone bins, looking underneath to see if I could tell magenta spots from the purple spots of giganteas, etc., hoping that I would find a merten's mixed in. When I finally saw one in person, there was absolutely no doubt that it was a merten's. They are just so different than the other carpets. The best way to describe their "look" would to say they look a bit like C. adhesivium (sp?) but with normal tentacles.

I have a few ID type pictures in my gallery on pages 2-4.

Come on who will dispute this with them?

Ive been lookin for a Gigantea and this is why i get ****ed. Its been about 6 months and i wanna go crazy. Everytime i get a lead its a haddoni listed as a gigantea....

not to get anything started here, but i talked with this vendor, and he didnt know for sure what kind of nem it was at first. then they made their choice off of the invoice from the shipper where they came in from. with this vendor having such a good rep you would think they would be more careful at listing things like that, and the worse part not knowing it is bleached! thanks guys for saving me 250 bucks.
