I was wondering how would one go about killing a nuissance acro crab in a reef. the crab is not bothering coral but it is killing expensive wrasse. Cant move live rock. The crab is smart. I was thinking of shooting boiling water into the hole it is hiding in.

I am not sure if the boiling water will work. it is a 375 gallon tank
the crab is the size of a tennis ball.

I have not tried interceptor waiting for delivery

in meantime want to try boinling water. thinking of using a maxijet with two gallon of boiling water, attach hose to maxijet and shoot the crab until it is boiled.
my issue is i dont want to kill my spa. do you think small amount of boiling water will change water temperature enough to hurt coral?

Are you sure it's an acro crab? Seems to be too big, and if it's going after fish it's probably some other form of nuisance crab. Would love to see a picture when you catch it.

Jam a coat hanger in there and mush it around. If you can get the rocks out, then a drill and bit works good.

tilt a glass or vase at 45 degrees and put a chunk of shrimp in the bottom. Crabs can't swim ... he'll walk in to get the shrimp and then won't be able to climb back up the slippery sides of the glass.

Are you sure the crab killed your wrasse? Could it be the wrasse was already death and your crab happened to scavenge? I'd try other means to take it out and toss it in the sump.

Life is rare and unique. Try to save it if you can.

Use a long steel skewer. U know the one they use to grill kabobs. Then go spear fishing. I have done it the trick is to find the crabs hiding spot. Sorry its never fun to kill anything but to save the reef small things will have to be sacrificed

does not sound like an acro crab. However many nuisance crabs can be caught by placing a tall glass at a 45deg angle and placing some shrimp at the bottom with a few rocks over the shrimp. The crab crawls in at night to get the shrimp but the glass is to slick for it to crawl up.

I would also suggest the above. + a ton of patience.
