How to know when your putting out to much light??

I've been having issues lately and just can't nail what's going on..... One thing I have noticed is that the corals not affected at all are all my stags and I've been running rox lately and have very clear water ... What's a coral look like when it's had to much light? And are stags able to handle more then say miilis

I'm running 400 watt ushios on a 24" deep tank was ok for awhile but all of a sudden started getting burnt looking pieces

burnt tips can sometimes be accredited to phosphate.

have you checked your params

Phos is stable at 0.02 nitrates high 15 to 20 I had slight alk swing a month ago from 8.5 to 7.5

The alk swinging down over time wouldnt be too bad, but if you brought it back up fast, that would cause burnt tips absolutely.

White/light corals with polyps usually get too much light.

Burned tips are usualy higher KH (9+) with biopellets.

How is your polyp Extension? When I had ROX and strong light I had very little polyp Extension and colors were on the lighter side. Removed ROX and raised my light and thing are turning around for the better
