How to make a spray bar to replace the AGA overflow nozzle

i have mine pointing slightly down from parallel to the ground. if the holes are parallel to the ground and right at the surface, they will have a tendency to pull in air bubbles from the surface. but i didn't want it pointing down too much since i have a couple frogspawns right at the top of the tank. if you're doing sps up there, the would love the current. so the angle just really depends on the animals you have and their placement.
 
Hey electric 130: That little rubber thing you took from your overflow helps on noise reduction and water splash. That is why you have so much salt creeping on the top of the overflow. Yes it helps on water flow.
 
i used a piece of PVC to extend the height of the downdraft pipe anyway. that raises the water level in the overflow. my water only falls about 2 inches. i just put the rubber thing back in and it made the overflow louder, and raised the water level in the tank a 1/4" inch. that puts the water above the holes in the overflow and i don't get any surface skimming.

the salt creep i have up there is from the bubbles coming in the overflow. that rubber piecs reduces the number of bubbles, but causes more harm than good (see above paragraph) so i'd rather have the right water level, less noise and a little salt creep than screwed up water level, more noise and less salt creep. in those pics is 6 months worth of creep, so there's not that much IMO. i can live with it.
 
Good, Im going to have to take mine two becase mine is not skimming at all, but everytime I take hem out it sounds like a freight train just the water coming in from the tank because I have the same bouy that you have on yours.

I got a 1200gph pump on mine is a pond master. that come sfrom the wet/dry up about 17" then a 90 degree elbow then a valve for water shut-off/pump failure, then 90 degrees to a 'T', then splits to either one side or the other then up to the outflow, so I dont know how mucg pressure Im losing having all those 'T's and elbows. Dont get me wrong I get a good output from it. If I take one end out of the tank it sprays about 4 to 5 feet out. I did that by mistake and I got ny butt shewed by the wife..

Can you please tell me what size of diameter the tubing was for the spraybar. I'm going to make one for my 75.:thumbsup:

One more question on the spray bar.

At what angle did you drill the holes.

Are they spraying directly at the rocks back side?

Did you drill some holes to move some surfice water?

use a small piece of PVC to raise the water level in the overflow. the water won't fall as far, and it won't be as loud.

straight into the pipe, no angles.

no, they're all drilled pretty much in a straight line. if they point up at the surface, they draw bubbles into the water. the spray bar makes plenty of surface aggitation on it's own, but i also have 2 maxi-jet 1200's on a wave timer pointed up a little.
 
I found silflex (real name is Sil-O-Flex) at Lowes, look in the PVC section, they might send you to electrical and there is none there, Is called
11966 3/4" Silver-Line Sil-O-Flex PE-3408 SIDR-???? then it has something like this PSI @ 73 F AST I got this from the tubing, this pipe/tubing is black with blue letters.

You will also need 2 3/4" threaded adapters and one end cap for each bar, the adapters are in the plumbing section and they are gray and the end cap is white.

Theoretically, couldn;t you just run a piece of 1" tubing along the top of the tank and drill holes for a spray bar/tube?

i used siloflex. it's rigid and holds itself up. plus it's black and blends in with the tank, you don't hardly even notice it's there. problem i see with using clear flex hose is that you'd have to support it some how every 6" or so (maybe further apart) with the siloflex, i don't use anything to hold it up.
 
also, clear tubing might be more expensive. the siloflex is $1.97 for a 5 foot section. i think the 1" clear tube is something like $1.10 per foot. not a huge difference, but in this hobby, every little bit adds up.
