How to move clam

Long story short. I placed a flat rock in the sand under my clam, he moved from the rock and attached to the bottom of the tank. Now it seems to be pulling itself in the sand. The clam still opens fully but is just half burried in the sand. The clam is a Crocera and from what I have read needs alot of light. I have it under 2 x 150 HQI but was wanting it to attach to the flat rock so I could place it up high in the rockwork. I guess the guy showed me, hu? Any ideas?

I have tried attaching my 2 maximas to rocks so I can put them higher and I have Zero luck doing it Let me know if you have any success.

I tried gently moving the clam yesterday, no luck at all. That sucker on on tight. It seems happy and opens fully, I guess if it doesnt like it, it will move.

Eric, the clam is obviously content where it is, but I understand it might not be where YOU want him to be. The only thing I could suggest is to CAREFULLY use a straight-edge razor and scrape along the bottom of the tank where he attached. It's a risk, but if done slowly and carefully, you should be able to get him off.

By way of a suggestion, I used one of the Boston Aquafarms fragging discs for one of my new clams, and it works out well, if you can get 'em to attach.

Thanks. I think the hardest part is just getting them to attach. I am not upset where the clam is at all. It looks great and seems happy, but from what everyone posts my clam will soon die from light starvation, lol.. as I do not have four 1000 watt MH 2 inches from the water. I was wanting to move it up on the rocks so it could get stronger light, but in the sand is fine with me.

Eric, it all depends on how far the clam is away from the light, and which lights you have. Not all MH lamps are created equal. For instance, a 20K Radium puts out much less PAR/PPFD than 10K XM.

That said, use your best judgment. It's often hard for us to guess at what to do. I'd default to more light being better, and if you can move him, then I'd probably do that, but it's up to you.

Thanks. I am using the Coralife 10K 150 HQI's. I will say I am very impressed with them. I swapped them out from a set of stock Current bulbs and everything is responding very well. I have seen increased growth in all my corals. I am even getting growth from a few SPS Acro frags that are on the sandbed. My tank is a 75 with a few inches of sand, and my lights are 5-6 inches about the water.
