How to move corals around???

I have a small nano tank with a few corals and I have a Xenia frag on the very top of a large piece of live rock. The Xenia is on a small piece of rock about 1"x1" and gets moved rather easily by hermits or snails. The Xenia is growing well, I've had it for a couple of months now and it has probably doubled in size. I was wondering in these cases if it was possible to remove from the small piece it's on to my main piece in my tank?? Has anybody tried this?? If so how is it done without hurting the coral? Thanks!!

I've pulled Xenia off rocks any number of times. I just use a utility knife blade and carefully cut and pry the animal off the rock. You could just invert the rock, put the Xenia on the bottom, and it'll likely attach to the main piece in a day or so, and then do the cutting and prying.

I have yet to forcibly move my xenia but when I moved the mushrooms off the shell they came on I simply used a razor and mentioned and I had no issues. All the mushrooms survived the move and in some case have doubled in size in the following 2 months.
