How to move on??

I want to switch my aquarium over from a mixed aquarium to an SPS LPS dominant tank. I have alot of starter corals from "the early years" of reef keeping, such as gps, that I would to no longer have.

My question is how do I get rid of all my corals and rock with loosing the least amount of money. Should I try to sell all my stuff on the forums or should I try to go to an LFS and swap out rock and coral colonies for bare rock and a few frags? If the LFS is the way to go which one would be most willing to make such a deal?

From when I started reef keeping I never thought that some of my corals I choose would become such a nuisance. Now that I know much more about animal species and acceptable coral choices I see where I could make adjustments. The problem is getting rid of all that I need to in order to house ever more delicate and colorful corals. :deadhorse1:

this what you do. sell or give away what you dont want and just add sps. drop all your nutrients down as low as you can with gfo and or carbon dosing or a bunch of water changes. i dont really think you need to do anything but stop buying or adding lps and just add sps.

Frag swaps and Craigslist works well too...

Reef Keeping in general is a good way to set a bonfire to your bank account... Oh well...

I think the problem OP will be faced with is that a lot of the coral are probably growing on the rock, so he's worried about not having any rock left over. Also, with beginner corals being less sought after, some of the coral may not even be picked up with for the low low price of free. Least amount of headache would be to LFS trade; least amount of $ loss would probably be listing it separately, but that may take months if the coral is very common. If you have rock you love, sell what will sell, and kill off the rest and bring back the rock.

Post a pic of your tank and location with prices on all corals (or free). Kalk whatever's left to kill it and feed the SPS. :) Depending on the coral (GSP) you'll never get it completely off of a rock, it always comes back somehow. So decide on dry rock now or DIY some rock and make it look exactly how you'd want it to with holes for frag plugs and all. Let it cure for however long it takes while you slowly sell off what you don't want.
