How to octo-proof a tank?

Hi

I'm considering turning my 37 gallon into an octopus tank. It is currently housing seahorses which I can move into my 75 gallon. My question is regarding skimmers and such. I plan on getting a bimac and I was wondering what people do to make it escape proof. If I use a skimmer, like my CPR Bak Pak, how do I prevent it from getting sucked into the skimmer?

Thanks in advance!

I have kept about a dozen octopuses And I use a piece of plexiglass with exact cutouts for any filter tube inlets or heater wires. I cut the holes at the edge of the plexiglass so the cover can be slid off. Small octopus can squeeze through extreamly small spaces. The size of their beak is the only hard part. I have never lost one to climbing out.

As for being sucked into the filter I put that foam tube on the intakes that you get with reverse undergravel filter powerheads.

i have a 75 FOWLR, i plan on getting rid of the fish and getting an octo, i was wondering if a 1"x2" opening would let him out? also can they suction to the glass and climp up out of the water?? thnx in advanced

This is how I octo proofed the pump returns.

I also didn't use powerheads, that way you don't get tentacles and impellers mixing together.

I know that monterey bay aquarium uses astro-turf around the tops of their octopus tanks so that they cant climb outââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦
