How to Photoshop (online guide recommendations?)

I am wondering if anybody knows of any really good online (free of course) guides for learning photoshop.

I understand I could google this, but I thought I should see if anybody has any good personal recommendations.

Thanks

"Photoshop" is a pretty broad topic. The program was originally designed as a photo tool but now it's a very broad graphic arts program. Many books and online resources focus on teaching you how to use the entire program vs. just those features that apply to photography. Honestly, even though I sell images, I use a very small subset of the tools available in PS.

Lynda.com is a really good resource. For $25 per month (you can cancel anytime) you get all-you-can-eat access to a huge video library. That approach lets you target your learning to exactly what you're trying to learn. Scott Kelby's organization (NAPP) costs $99 per year. That membership gets you a monthly magazine devoted to teaching PS techniques as well as full access to the video library on their site.

lewiskemper.com is a good resource as well. Lewis is a local photographer (local to me) that has a series of training videos available on DVD if you'd like something more portable.

There are a ton of books available, and most of them are good, you just want to find something targeted at photographers vs. trying to learn the whole program.

Cheers

I can personally vouch for Lynda.com. I received I think 3 free months subscription to their site and sadly only used it a couple times, but the times I did use it, the wealth of information/techniques I could find in their videos was amazing.

But like Beerguy said, it's not free. It's $25 a month.

If I were you, I would simply use Google and type in what you want to learn to do... that's what I used to learn Photoshop. You can find a ton of free information there. When you want the real high quality and professional help, then you'll probably end up paying a couple $$$ a month for it.

Something like this...

PS. I know that you asked for free but you'll come up to speed much faster if you're willing to spend a few bucks.

Cheers

Thanks for all the replies. Once I started researching I realized the insane amount of different uses for photoshop. I really dont want to spend $700 on the whole program if I only need a few functions.

Perhaps check out Photoshop Elements then, it has a lot of the tools of the full blown CS version of Photoshop with about 1/7th the cost.
