I am finally starting to slowly add corals. When they are bigger corals 5 inches, how do you get them to stay on you live rock?? do you just sit them there and they stay?

Thanks

.....for bigger frags/mini colonies i'd use aquamend or any other reef safe putty......it also works best if you can find a spot on the live rock that has a crevice or hole in it,(or take the rock out and drill it) you can stick some putty on the bottom of the coral, then place the coral into the crevice/hole and putty around the base of the coral where it meets the rock, within a month the coral will start growing new base and start encrusting to the putty and eventually the rock.............and fwiw i always mix my aquamend and let it sit for 3-4 minutes befor using it, that way it starts to harden and is eaiser to work with as its not overly soft.....

Try this:
Coral - Super glue - Epoxy - suoerglue - rock.

The SG-Epoxy-SG sandwich works GREAT!

I try to use the hole and peg method for all corals. You want to be able to move a coral. You may have to take it out and dip if parasites are problem. Never glue corals down if you can avoid it. This way u can also experiment with different light/flow if polyps are not extended. I glue a 1/8-14 inch acrylic rod to the base of all my corals. I have holes drillled in the rock that are also 1/8 to1/4" diameter. If you can remove the rocks, drill holes in them. Make aholes at differnt angles this way u can have corals growing out the sides of rocks. You can drill holes underwater but it makes a messy cloud in the tank.

Thanks for all of the help. I wound up using the Two Little Fishies CorAffix (not the gel one). Once i figured out how to use it, that stuff is great. I had a flat disk on the bottom, and found a little (pencil size) hole i wanted the coral above.

I first put a drop on the disk and dipped it in the tank, it was almost instantly hard. I did this 4 more time until i had almost a pencil size post that fit in the hole. I then jammed it into the rock and it was wobbly. It says to hold for 30 seconds, but took about 2 mins for it to stay better ( but still loose) after 30 mins i Checked it and once the glue sit in the water for a while it expands and the coral sits perfectly. I think it worked very well.

Regarding Two Little Fishies CorAffix (not the gel one), after it was recommended to my, by someone who's opinion I really trust, I've had issues with this product not holding very well :mad2:

I've had MUCH better luck with cheap Gel Superglue, bought at a hardware store for a buck. I've also had very good luck with bsi IC-GEL. I purchase the bsi from a hobby shop, here in town, much cheaper than I can get it online.

I would be a little carefull on how you say this. I can see some people trying to stick there power drill under water right now.:eek1:

Not only that, I could see the vibrations transferring through the rock, to the glass and possibly breaking or cracking the glass!!! Scary!!!

I think people should not have to be careful when it comes to posting methods that are based on the reader having some common sense. I am not responsible for the straight up stupid people that would do such a thing.
