How to quarantine chaeto?

I'd like to quarantine a ball of chaeto, since the last one I added grew like weeds, but ended up contaminating my tank with ich and god knows what else. Everyone with a backbone is in QT doing TTM right now, and only crabs and shrimp are left in the DT. Can I QT chaeto in a 10G tank using DT water, while it's running fallow, maybe changing water 1/wk? I'm concerned that if I use new water, the chaeto will not thrive due to lack of nutrients. What would be my best approach to QT for this situation?

How to quarantine chaeto?

I have my chaeto ball in 10g for like 7 months now. Never feed it just have lights on it. It's growing like mad so yes you can qt it. I was doing what you are doing quarantine chaeto but ended up not using any in my tank.

You could just toss a bit of fish food into the QT periodically to keep in nutrient rich.

I usually go for 72 days in a QT with a light and heater.

Ok, thanks. Is just a heater and powerhead sufficient to keep the ball moving, or should I have some sort of HOB filter?

I actually secure mines. I do have a powerhead that is set on a timer to come on every 6 hours for 30 mins.
