How to Quiet Durso Stand Pipe Overflow

The drain on my new tank is gurgling and bubbling in the sump. How do I quiet that down? Its a durso stand pipe in the overflow.

Any help would be appreciated!

is there a small breather hole in the cap on top?

is this a new set up or been running awhile? if it has been up and running a while. sometimes the little hole gets salt creep built up. use a toothpick to clean it out some.

There is a hole on the cap.

This is a new setup. Its been running about a week. I am getting a ton of salt creep in my sump due to all the air entering from the drain line.

Thats a lot of pump for such a small tank....... but depending you can stick a peice of airline tubing down the hole of the muffler. ... and the tank needs a break in period to get a slime coat to be less noisy.

I bet you need to slow drain, not return.

I read about putting a valve on the drain line, but that scares me... because I have one drain line period, no emergency overflow.

I tried to put a felt filter sock, and would just fill up and overflow. Is that an indicator I need to slow the return? Maybe split the drain into two filter socks?

Put a valve on the return line, reducing the flow to your tank. Since less water will be going up, less water will be coming down. I'm a firm believer that your drain should always be capable of flowing more water than your return is capable of delivering.
