How to reduce power consumption

there is zero snow in edmonton alberta and we have above freezing temps for the next two weeks... IN DECEMBER. 10 yrs ago in alberta canada it would be -15 to -20c . Climate change is very real , maybe not quite what the report says but its happening, just glad we pay 0.08 cents a kwh

Greenhouse gases aside, how about all the mercury in fish? Oh, and thanks for ruining my fun at Reef Central this afternoon.

I run 4 tanks in my non-heated garage. My electricity bill was very high. My first step was to change all lighting in my house and reefs to LED. I went through my home to see how I could save power. A couple degrees warmer on the fridge, heater down a couple degrees, removing devices that using phantom power, etc..... I picked up some 2 inch thick sheets of styrofoam and insulated my reefs on 5 sides (the front panels are easily to remove). Then I switched my electric service to a "time of use plan" and only run my lighting at non-peak times. With all this effort, I have gotten my bill down to almost where it was prior to reefing.
Cheers! Mark

Not one day above freezing?

Looking at the graphs below -
Doesn't appear to be any trend in temperatures for Nov in the region over the period 1880 to present. 10 years ago appeared warmer than this year.

No trend for winter snowfall 1880 till present. No difference from ten years ago?

No apparent trend in major snow fall events since 1880, or for the last ten years?

From the news desk -

Alberta sets new records as temperatures drop 15 degrees in mere minutes Saturday: Albertans have been dealing with winter-like conditions this Easter long weekend, but some locations have had it worse than others.

According to Environment Canada, three locations "“ Red Deer, Grande Prairie and Pincher Creek will remember Saturday as the coldest March 31 on record.

Edmonton breaks record for consecutive days at or below zero

This year, Edmonton has seen the spring of many seasons.
The real story may be the fact that we have broken the all-time record for consecutive days with the temperatures slipping equal to, or colder than 0 C.
The mercury hit 0 C on Oct. 29, 2017 and it has failed to stay above that mark for 24 consecutive hours since! The last time we saw a streak last this long was the 166-day stretch from Nov. 2 to April 16, 1975.

Northern hemisphere snow extent for Fall & Winter is increasing
