how to revive Live rock

Sorry that was meant for the gasoline/matches wisecracker not for you.. Your posts are fine and respectful of others as we all should be.

Not sure why you guys are preaching all this chemical warfare when just putting the rock in fresh water will accomplish the same thing with a lot less toxicity.

Also, since the bacteria the take care of the nitrogen cycle are the same in fresh and salt, a fresh water soak will at least stabilize it in terms of biological capacity. The only thing that will be left are good bacteria. Plus, if the water is circulating, the die off will be faster than drying it out.

Surprised nobody has told him to use gasoline and a match yet.

I used to cook rock all the time in saltwater. 6. 8. 12 weeks. Then the rock was great. You could purge the phosphates and clean old rock wonderfully. This method works wonders (although it requires is a LOT more than just soaking and circulating as you imply to get the phosphates out). Then I tried bleach+acid. Same result in 2-3 days.

I never cooked or bleached but started a 110g tank with probably 200# of dead rock after a month I added cheato and pods and a clownfish and damsel. Been up 3 months or more and everyone is doing fine. Now I am all worried about adding corals!
