How to Safely Remove a Clam from a Rock?

I know someone who has a nice clam that I might like to buy. The problem is that the clam has been on the same rock for years. The rock is covered in aiptasia. I want the clam not the rock. How do we safely remove the clam without damaging the foot or other parts of the clam?

you'll need to cut the byssal threads as far from the clam as you can. use a razor blade, and just be sure not to twist, pull, or torque the clam too much.
