how to set up a qt properly?

i have a 55gal dt that i believe got ich from a trigger i bought from petco, he since died and took a few damsels out with him. i got an eel and picasso trigger along with invertebrate.. the eel is small (11in) and the trigger is small (half dollar size). i want to make a qt tank with a 10 gal set up i got, but is that to small to treat all those fish for 6 weeks in??? and how is the best way to set up a QT ? best copper treatment ? and best thing to do with my dt while fish are in the QT tank. PLEASE HELP! NEW TO THE HOBBY AND ALREADY GETTING SHAFTED =(

don't get frustrated. we all went thru this. I would not recommend petco next time. everytime I go to petco that has a saltwater tank, all their fish looks like they are sick. but for your qt question. refer to the below link

I am not at all familiar with eels so I will defer to others on that issue but a trigger is not an appropriate stocking choice for a 55 gallon tank.

I think the best advice for any beginner is never buy any livestock based on the advice of store employees. Write down the name of anything you want to buy and then go home and research care requirements and recommended tank sizes. This will save you a lot of money and heartache!

yea, definitely will not be buying fish from PetCo ever again. thank you for the link!
and he is small right (half dollar size) now in the 55 when he gets bigger I will be able to transfer him to a bigger tank.

You're getting because you're new. You don't know as much as someone with more experience.

Live Aquaria has a good guide. I linked you to their Marine Fish for Beginners and filtered the results for fish that will do well in a 55. You can see the filter options on the right side. They have a great reputation and I have had success with their livestock, and Divers Den is like their "select" line. There are other vendors with good reputations. Just search the forum for their name and ask us questions before you do anything.

Remember, fish stores have a financial interest in making a sale and will typically advise you to open your wallet. The vast majority of people here will give honest advice, though there may be conflicting methods of achieving a similar result.

I used the tank transfer method, as described in the fish disease forum sticky successfully. You remove the fish to a QT or HT (hospital tank) and leave your display fishless for 12 weeks. The ich need to find a host fish in order to survive and will have died off after that amount of time without feeding.

Actually, right now I have a new fish going through tank transfer with 2x 5 gallon buckets that were used for reef salt originally. Sure, the fish isn't really comfortable, but it will allow the fish to be free from ich before entering my display. It will also give me time to observe for other illnesses.

How about knocking off the offensive language.? Talking like this to folks you don't even know sure isn't going to get you much help; and you obviously have done little or no research on the hobby. You'll need all the help you can get.
