How to silence a Maggie mini.

Just got a Maggie mini installed. It took away the flushing sound but occasionally i notice it stops the overflow from draining. Then it will drain fast and I get a whistle from the Maggie's muffler. And the water in the sump gurgles like mad.

Is there anything I can do to modify the muffler to stop the whistle and gurgle

There is no valve on the return line.

The pump is only 692gph before headloss. I couldnt imagine it being to strong after head loss

Whats the diameter of the drain pipe?

I have a Maggie Muffler on a 1.5" drain and I had to valve back the pump to about 800 gph after headloss

It's been said in the DIY forum that the flow limit for an open channel drain like a Maggie or a Durso is really pretty low without whistling or gurgling.

It does sound like you've found the limit for your 1" Maggie. Any chance you could fit the 1.5" Maggie in your overflow, maybe use a 1" to 1.5" adapter at the bulkhead for the standpipe?

Overflow box is really tight with the 1 inch.

I have read that drilling out the hole on the top slightly larger and adding airline down it would stop the whistle.

But I could always grab a ball valve and a few plastic hose clamps and throttle it back. Before I start drilling

Yeah I'd try throttling the return a bit first. If that doesn't work the airline with a little airline valve to regulate the air into the muffler might be worth a try.
