How to start the Zeovit system

Hello all, after doing a little reading and visiting the zeovit site, which was completely overwhelming, I am a little confused, lol. On the zeovit website they had so many different chemicals and stuff. Can anybody suggest the basic zeovit system or whats needed to start this "system" or even basically what it is. What is needed for those just starting out. Or is there another thread you could direct me too. Thanks.

Download the PDF on the main page, read it a couple of time until you start to get the gist of things, then ask some questions....

Yes, i've been studying on this method plus i have a buddy who runs full blown ZEO on his 90 gal.
It's basically a:
ZEO reactor that holds Zeoliths, a media in which certain bacteria colonize. This has a pump set up on a timer to run 3 hrs. on/ 3 hrs. off. Must be pumped twice a day. Once in the morning , once at night.
These are the "basic 4" dosing supplements needed to start up ZEO:
ZEO bac- to colonize bacteria
ZEOstart- to help start the bacteria
ZEOfood- to feed the bacteria & corals

I hope this helps, once you've read over the ZEO guide a few times you'll get it. It's not nearly as difficult as it seems.
good luck!

I also was reviewing the ZeO but the price tag on the setup and continuing the maintenance for the system had me a bit concerned with replacing the zeo rocks every few weeks and all those additives were an issue. If $$$ is an issue for you as with me because I like to buy livestock as well here is a poormans setup that we have been discussing and seems to be working well. You may only need a few zeo supplements to thrive but the main goal is to achieve low nutrient system.

I would look into the UltraLith system because it also gives you a nutrient poor system. It also costs less because over time as the tank becomes more nutrient poor, lower dosages are needed for Bak and MinS and Bio.

I just picked up a Zeo reactor and the basic 4 this weekend. I noticed that my bottle of ZEObak has white fungusy stuff in it. Is this normal or did I buy a bad bottle?

Don,

the ZeoBak does have a light sediment in it. It should be kept in the fridge, or at least cool. heat will kill it off. Check the expiration date. Each bottle has one.

As a moderator on the Zeo Forum, I would recommend you ask your questions there, as well. There are lots of experienced people ready to answer questions and explain method.

If your tank is already established, you should run your reaktor 3 hours on-3 hours off for the first weeks to allow the corals to adjust. Zeovit is extremely efficient at removing ammonia (nitrates), which will quickly lower the nutrients in the tank. Corals that are used to these wastes will get a shock if they are gone overnight!

If you have questions, you can always PM me.

It's a good idea this way you can regulate the proper flow to the stones at a max of 100 gph per liter. and to have a way to pump them and remove the mulm.

I am considering starting this system in my reef which is a 120Gal stocked with 12 fish (mainly small with a few medium sized) and heavily stocked with softies and LPS. I will be transitioning to mainly sps with a few LPS.
I currently run RowaPhos and EcoBack biopellets.

I am completely sold on the ZEOvit system however I cant seem to find information on how to implement the ZEOliths.

Should this be done while the biopellets a running or do I need to discontinue the biopellets?

You should stop using both Biopellets and Rowaphos if you want to start with Zeovit.

This is what you need.

Zeolith stones in a reactor
Zeobak
Zeofood7 (or Sponge power)
Zeostart 3

And you should also use Active carbon 24/7 with Zeovit.

hmmm I suspected so, thanks alot for the swift response!
Do I simply swap out the biopellets with the Zeolith?
or should I on a phased basis by removing some Biopellets and adding the Zeoliths?

Also which brand of active carbon would you recommend?

First of all, what kind of filter do you have? Are you using a filter that is made for Zeolith? You have to pump the stones at least once a day and remember that the Zeolith stones require a lot less flow than Biopellets.

I use Korallen-Zucht Activated Carbon. But I don't think you will get any different results with other brands.

Edit: I would just remove all of the Biopellets at once and add the Zeolithes the next day. Don't think that will affect anything. How is your nutritiant levels by the way?

My current reactor is an aquamaxx, its powered by a 5000Lph syncra pump.

Nutrients are:
Nitrates: 0.00 (Salifert)
Phosphates: 0.003 (Salifert)
Alk: 9.6 (Salifert)
Calcium: 425 (Salifert)

My system is controlled by my apex so I can set that up to turn the pump on and off as the user guide states. Also reading the guide provided for the ZEO system.

Just looking to be sure and confident in myself when I begin to transition.
