How to tell if an anemone is about to split?

Its only been a little over a week, but the pbta i got from diversden looks very strange...it seems to have a lesion on its side, almost looks like a hole with its guts spewing out, or could it be another mouth? the foot is still attached to the rock but the nem is looking terrible otherwise.
i put a basket over it temporarily so the pair of clowns will leave it alone. it seems as if they were picking at the "new mouth". anyways, how concerned should i be? water params ok lighting ok other rbta doing ok.
i'm new with btas so i'm learning, thanks guys

If the guts are exposed, it is more likely on its way out. A new mouth would form on the oral disc if it were going to split.

It's good that you have put a barrier over it, as the fish picking at the lesion would exacerbate the problem.

Hey, EZ, my purple BTA from liveaquaria's not exactly in the greatest shape either. Here's what's happend:

I got mine last Tues, and it was doing great, even eating. On Friday, I thought it had already split bc it appeared that there were two of them (turns out, it was stretching itself behind a rock) So I grabbed the rock it was on, only to realize: oh, it's not splitting.

From that point on, everything's been a bit downhill: when its mouth is open, the mouth is gaping sooo much that you can see its insides. When its closed, its not closed "enough"...it's not a tightly closed mouth. Dont' know what the problem is bc I have 3 other BTAs in my tank, and they are all doing great. I'm basically just gonna keep doing whatever it is I'm doing and hope that eventually this new pBTA adjusts :(

Oh, yeah, I also took out my percs bc they were HARRASING this new BTA like crazy! When the mouth was open and gaping, they'd start dragging out its insides--very disturbing! Well, after I removed them, it started to look a bit better ...

G'luck to you on yours! When did yours start not looking so good?

Jamie
