Trying my hand at zoas again. I have had mixed results in the past. Some would grow out of control and some would melt .I have a new/old tank. The HQI bio cube is new to me but when i broke down my 250 i put sand and rock from it. So anyway i guess my questions is how do i know wich zoas want to be high or low in the tank?i have a 150w MH on and the tank is 16 inches deep.

All Z's and Ps should be started in the sand bed or bottom, then gradually moved up several inches at at time, give a couple weeks time between movements to see if the polyp reacts positively to the higher light. if it lightens up or starts to bleach then move back down to previous spot. Make sure all placement still meets good indirect flow but not battering them directly.

I have Z's and P's 5" under 250 Mhs. Acclimated to light properly you can have them under pretty much any light but every polyp is different.
see my tank here on the top right is a frag tray 4" from the top of the tank, and light is only 2" off the tank. Old pic

+1 start at bottom work your way up untill you find the "sweet spot" they will let u know if they like it or not by thier actions...

i have 5 T5s on a 55 gallon tank and I have zoas at all levels. They seem to be growing and doing well no matter where I put them.
