How to Trim Caulerpa

I have read conflicting reports about trimming caulerpa. It needs to be trimmed heavily so it does not go sexual, and that trimming can cause it to go sexual. So I was wondering if there is a proper way to trim it. Do you trim it by cutting it from the top of each leaf, or by cutting it at the root, to cut off new runners.

Thanks,

Jill

I snip it at the rhizome or root, on the horizontal stems, and remove the older sections of the plant. It would be great to hear from others on this, since I have not had Caulerpa sporulate (or 'go sexual') yet.

I usually just pull it out in as large of an intact piece as possible. Breaking the plant releases toxins. So try not to create too many breaks. I had it sporulate once, it was just a small plant, and hadnt been pruned yet. I got it out before it created any problems.
