How warm is your tank?

well how warm is it? What is your swing?

My thermometer is in my sump by my heaters. I'm thinking about getting another one to put in my display over flow.

I have the heater in the overflow. And probe in the sump. 90g display probably 20g sump. I range from 77 to 79 and then back to 77 in about 9 hours.

I would flip that around quick. If the overflow drains because of a power outage and your heater turns in it will probably crack. If it titanium it will melt the plastic of your overflow or burn the silicone. This could be a disaster unless you have your overflow somehow set that it never drains. Usually the pipes in the overflow are just dry fit instead of glued...

Thanks for your concern but a few things to mention:
-The heater is positioned on the back glass wall so I don't need to worry about melting plastic.
-the water in my tank only loses about 2" during a power outage.
-if there are s a power outage my heater won't be on anyway.

The main reason I moved my heater from the sump was because it was too long to fit comfortably any where.

Does your overflow drain when you do a water change?

When I do a water change I am typically swapping water out from the tank as that's much easer than trying to exchange water from the sump. So yes the water level goes down but it doesn't drain completely.

I have the main sensor ( on apex) in the over-flow, the main heater ( on apex) in the return section of my sump set at 79 with an alarm (shutoff, email) of 81. I have a backup sensor (on battery backup) and backup heater (same)on the backup sensors control set at low 78 high (alarm) 81. My tank has stayed at 79.1 on both sensors so far this winter; past summer it stayed around 79.8.
