I have been trying to find some info on how wide of a tank to go with. but have been unsuccessfull. so was wondering how wide to go with?

When you say wide, do you meen the lenght. If so tanks are usally 24", 36",48",60", 72", and 84". Now if you meen wide as fron to back, it will depend on the septh of a tank. If you want it "wider" then the tank will be shallower in deapth. It really all depends on what you want.

Give us an idea as to how big of a tank we are talking about. If it's a larger tank (40 gallons+) I would want at least 18" deep (front to back) for rock work. If you are talking side to side, it is going to depend upon your room space more than anything else. 48" wide minimum to accommodate many fish that need open water such as tangs.

I got the 48x30x25 about two months ago. I was debating between the exact two that you are. I am happy with the bigger. Like davewbush said "seems like I never have enough room front to back". Very true statement. Go bigger! :)

thanks thats what I figured not much more expensive anyways just didnt know with lights and such if it whould work out best

Just my personal taste, I would go 24" but go higher to 28-30". The eyes dont pick up depth as much as they do verticle distance. Thats why things look smaller as they get farther away. Hold something facing up and down, and then going away from you and you will see the difference.

(IMO), the extra height really opens up a tank and makes it look much bigger. I went from a 22" to 28" height and it made a world of difference.
