How would you go about building a Ric substrate?

So, I'm thinking of going bare bottom for my next tank. Thought it might be a good idea to try to grow Florida Ricordea's and maybe some Zoa's as well all over the bottom. Probably throw a bunch of rubble rock down there for them to grow on and maybe frag out as time goes on.

My question is. How would you go about getting it started? Would you just buy a pack or two online and see what you get? Or should I troll around the shows and frag swaps and be a bit more picky?

It depends on what you are looking for. Most lfs have a good assortment of rics. Buying online is an option but also look at what other reefers in your area have to offer in trade or barter. You would be stunned at some of the coral frags that can be had just by looking around.

I guess being rather new to Ric's, just about everything looks pretty stunning to me, haha! Hard to tell what's a good deal or what's a rip off.
