How would you set two vortechs in a 36 inch tank?

Hi all,

Would really appreciate the insights of SPS keepers.

I have a 36 inch by 24 inch by 18 inch (tall) tank set up for SPS. I have 2 MP10s setup using Reeklink. My live rock is composed of two small footprint mountains set on the thirds of the tank with a flat bridge rock connecting them.

If you had this set up, where would you situate the MP10s and what would you have them do to provide flow to your SPS?

Currently, I have them on opposite sides of the tank pointing at each other. I have them taking turns where one powers on while the other only spins for a few hours. The one that is on is running through a schedule that includes Reef Crest mode and Nutrient Transport.

I know this is somewhat subjective but any suggestions would be very helpful.

I have mine on the two sides, one towards the front glass and the other towards the back glass. Mainly use ReefCrest with some Tidal Swell and Nutrient Transport thrown in.

Before I went Gyre 150, I ran two MP40's in my tank. I had them both on the opposite sides from eachother running anti-sync in wave mode / Reef Crest throughout the day.

Every night from 12:00-12:10 AM, I ran them at 100% with the fastest pulse possible to stir up any and all debris which worked amazing!

Wave mode means the resonant wave for your tank? How did you set that up?

Here was my exact setup

12:00AM - 100% Pulse at 0.25 seconds each
12:10AM - 100% Pulse at 0.25 seconds each
12:15AM - 20% Pulse at 10 seconds
5:00AM - 60% Reefcrest
11:55AM - 60% Pulse at 5.34 seconds each
12:00PM - 100% Pulse at 0.25 seconds each
12:10PM - 100% Pulse at 0.25 seconds each
12:15PM - 60% Pulse at 5.34 seconds each
16:00PM - 55% Pulse at 5.34 seconds each
20:00PM - 60% Pulse at 0.7 seconds each
23:55PM - 30% Reef Crest

In my opinion the back wall is the only real way to go if your tank is in a traditional setup with the back against a wall. Having pumps right in the middle of the side panels is a real eyesore. At least the gyre can be up higher in most setups I have seen online giving some extra unobstructed viewing.

But even then with the gyre... I think back wall is the best if possible. Having 3 panels totally unobstructed is a real plus.

The 2 MP10s were quite an investment. Switching to MP40s isn't an option at the moment.

What do you mean by short side? Do you mean the back?

I think he means on one of the 24" sides.

Try a few of the suggested configurations and see how it jives with your rockwork. I don't think there's a right answer. I might try high towards the rear of one side, and lower towards the front of the opposite side. Both on the rear panel sounds good (and clean too). I have two WAVs and a gyre on my 48x24, and I run the gyre on one end and the WAVs on the rear panel on each side of the overflow. I'm quite pleased with the results, but the gyre is doing a lot of the work.

If you want to run the ecosmart modes with two pumps, they are designed to be opposite each other. Third/fourth pump would be on back wall. If you just want to use constant speed or makes waves I can see putting them in different areas.
