How's it look

How's it look? It seems to be losing its color. Anyone have any thoughts?

If its a new anemone getting acclimated to your tank and is spreading out they seem alittler lighter in color. What kind of lights and how new is the setup.

Its new to my tank and it has been about 3 weeks in there right now. My tank has been set up for 2 years. I have a 36" orbit marine pro for for lighting .

That is a healthy looking BTA. Most of us would not have any idea what a "36" orbit marine pro" light is. You may want to describe it for us so we don't have to go digging around the web before we can comment on it.

That light is not sufficient for anemones. It's at best ok for soft corals. It won't work for LPS or SPS corals. I ordered one to find out if they were worth using over my tank and can tell you that for sure it won't work.

If you're in the market for a powerhouse of a light, I highly recommend this one. Completely controllable, I was told with pre-programmed moon schedule matched with the real one. Full moon outside, will be full moon in my tank. The SIRIUS XTC

I picked one up last weekend. Wow is all I can say. It's got 2500+par compared to the G3's 1200 par rating at the same 12" distance. Specs are on both websites for you to compare, and the reefledlights fixture is conservative in that number, from the reading I saw on the par meter. I've pulled the trigger in replacing all my reef lights, hoping to have them all replaced by next weekend. I compared it with the lamps I was using, and all I can say, is wow. I started out with it dialed blue at 100% and the rest at 80%, trying to match the brightness to the LED's I have. Oops. With in 15 minutes I dialed it down below 40-50% across the board. I'll post pics and more info in the coming weeks as I see how stuff grows. So far, this is an awesome light.

I just bought a great light last week, Ocean Revive Arctic T247 I wanted just one light that would be all that I needed for my mixed reef as most LED's only cover 24x24 but this light covers my whole tank 36x18

I have to disagree that the light is not powerful enough I have kept anemones under the basic marine orbit for 2 years now. He has the pro version and is about twice as strong so I see no reason that he cant keep an anemone with that light HOWEVER dkulhman did find a good light for pretty cheap that I am replacing my orbits with in a week or two and I firmly believe those lights will do a world of difference compared to the orbits

Yes it is a world of difference, you're gonna love it! But be careful it's stronger than you think. I had it set to 60% blues and 40% whites and damn near killed all of my acans, and they're on the sandbed!

I had one of the lights the OP is talking about 2 weeks ago, trust me it's not enough for anemones. Might be ok for a little while but the anemone and corals will not make it long term. It was a very cool light with all kinds of programming but just not enough umph!

the thing about the current usa orbit lights is.. you cant control the color of the lights and they are not really the ideal color spectrum, i was told and shown this by rick pruess who owns pruess pets in lansing mi. one of the highest regarded pet stores in the state of michigan.. he explained the difference in lights to me and said he would be more than happy to sell me one if thats all i could afford but he highly recommended not buying one. then took the time too show me the difference of lights. showed me how they look in person, on aquariums he has set up in his store. everything from orbit pros, kessels, ai hydra and ai primes and all of the eco tech lights, he has all of them running on tanks every day... before i spent my money and showed me how much more red was in the orbit lights and that it cant be changed. i am not going to tell you exactly what lights you "should" have because i am sure there are many many lights that are great and can be fully adjusted for colors. i know what i chose and i am happy with my purchase, though im also sure not everyone can afford to do what i did... you want a light that can create a natural spectrum as much as you can, mine adjust all day long to create a shallow reef color spectrum, the same exact colors of whats really going on in a actual reef on a south pacific island and you can set the depth of the color spectrum even, so if i want my aquarium to replicate a reef at 25 feet deep its going to be pretty close to what a real reef would look like

Not sure what happened in your case but I have no issues. 1 strip versus 2 might be the issue.

Fwiw I have 2 - orbit marines - gen 1 and my rbta looks awesome and growing like mad. It's a 40 breeder and the rbta is at the bottom (on a rock of course) and hasn't moved since settling in on day 2.

For a deep tank you are probably right but that's a blanket statement that just isn't true. Plus the pro is better than the G1.

I can say that because I purchased one and returned it all in the same week, because it's not sufficient for LPS, SPS or anemones. Probably fine for softies and fish. So yes I can say that from personal experience and was stated in my first reply. This is in my opinion.

My tank is also a 40b

I do agree there are better lights out there. But since I had the equipment leftover from my upgrade I gave it a try. Figuring if it didn't work is move it to my 80g with radion pros. But the rbta is thriving under the 2 - g1 orbits. I run them 100% so I'll see how the longevity of the lights hold up.

I edited my original post.

Bottom line is some people have had success. I think one strip was the issue.

I'm not arguing that it's a mediocre light I'm arguing that an anemone can work very well with that light with multiple people confirming that.

Now if you are using two of them, then yes it's probably fine.

But in my search for one quality light to use over my 40b 36x18x17 I found the Ocean Revive Arctic T247 the best bang for the buck. I got this light for $175 shipped. The Chinese black box provided only a direct 24x24 area leaving 6" on both sides with not enough light. The other issue with the CBB is they have a funky spectrum that provides for nasty algae growth on the sand.

I did like what the Orbit's provided as far as light programming it was amazing, just wouldn't work with just one of them.

I totally hear what you are saying. I called current before I got my rbta. They suggested adding a second g1 strip for the rbta, which seems to be working great after a few months. I thought about getting a new lighting system but I got a refirb unit for like $75 and as you said the programming is great.

I would think that one pro might work but maybe not.

To the OP what intensity are you running the light at? How many inches down is the anemone? If you are committed to the orbit perhaps try to pick up a supplemental light. If the tank is shallow you could buy a used g1 on the cheap. If it's deeper definitely supplement with a heavy hitter and either keep the pro or try to resell it.
