Got a few new pieces of rock from TBS last week and I thought this guy was just a piece of one of the rocks at first until he started to move. I'm not exactly sure what he is......a conch maybe?? He's got a really cool spiked shell.

Hey Richard,

I think it may be a Chicoreus dilectus, is he gonna be reef safe? I've read they can feed on bi-valves and some corals.

Snail eater!

Hmm post did not show up...anyway

he is a conch, stays small the one you have is pretty much full grown...the larger conchs here, like horse conch eat BIG stone crabs all the time, they corner them in a hole and eat them!

Yes Howard, it is a Chicoreus dilectus, commonly referred to as a lace murex. Beautiful critter, and worth buying a steady diet of snails to feed. Let me know if you ever want to get rid of him!

Re: conch

Re: conch

Looks like I've to get a Horse Conch to get the last Stone Crab out as I don't want to tear the tank down anymore. Jot 2 out and this small one is elusive and I want to get it out before I put Seahorses and Pipefish in.

But will the Horse Conch go after the Seahorses?
