hows this light?

I have a 55 and use a compact light similar to this one. We love ours. Mine is a Coralife , I don't know about this brand.

i use Coralife metal halide on my tank. I really like the Coralife brand. It is very reliable - at least after one year. I have not had a single breakdown.

for about 100 bucks more you could get a killer T5 HO retrofit.

But personally, if i was going to be buying a light, metal halide in particular (which are very powerful and a lot could go wrong if something was messed up) i would not be buying a name brand that no one or not many people have heard of. This is just my personal opinion tho, and you can do as you please. But since its not a reputable name brand, i would not be at all surprised if it turned out to be crappy. Now i'm not saying that it WILL be crappy, cuz who knows...it could be great! :) But you get what i'm saying ;)

Go with the reefgeek outfit. Never heard anyone saying, wow ! I got this killer deal from Ebay....more notes of folks buying ebay and having to go back to get a "good" unit from a reputable source selling directly to the public.

I personally have dealt with reefgeek. They stand behind their products and provide exceptional service.

Defective exchange are accepted and must be reported within 48 hours

This is the most telling part you get the full 48 hr.

They are the Crappy Oddysea lights that are sold on aquatraders. I have dealt with them and they are not worth the money. This years model and last years. Ballasts and cooling fans fry left and right and its nearly impossible to get replacement parts. They are not made very well. I did the same thing and ended up having to buy new lights within a couple of months. Look into Coralife or Currents Outer Orbits. Like always in life, you get what you pay for. Please skip the headache and dont order them.

how would that be on a 75 gal?

thanks all.

If you decide on that one, get it from aquatraders.com (cheaper).

Im trying to keep him this person away from aquatraders. All their products are garbage. You might get a good one here and there but its not worth it. Ive used the new and old oddysea lights from aquatraders and they broke so many times its just a big headache. If you find lights and they are half the price of the main stream lighting fixtures around today, you should know something negative will come of it. That link is of the same lights my buddy got a couple of months ago. He went through 3 ballasts now and only the HQI runs on it.

......

Ahhh. Then perhaps you should post your experiences in the thread I linked. They differ markedly from the experiences of others in that thread and could be helpful to those like myself researching lights.

it is a 6x54 tek light 309.99. would that be suficent for light?
also what color/type of bulbs?

yes its a good fixture, and you should be able to keep pretty much anything. dont let the mh people scare you away from t5!

well, after reading all 16 pages on the 760 watt mh combo I am even more undecided, seems to be alot more good to say about the mh combo. LOL

I have this same light. It is excellent! You will have to pay extra for bulbs though, as someone else mentioned.

if you want T5's i say go with a retro. i am running 4 - 39watt T5's icecap retro over my 46 gal. and i keep everything. 6 over a 75 gal. and you'll be set. only downfall is the shimmer lines you don't get. but they run cool and very bright
