HUGE!! phosphate jump

Since last wensday my Phos levels have gone from undetectable to .2. This may also explain why a lot of my LPS curled up. Can any one tell me what may have caused this. I have never had a Phos problem before. I'm gonna stop tomarrow and grab some Phosphate sponge and run it though an old fluval 305 i have. This sound like a good plan?

Hey mark I can bring up some of my gfo that I got on ebay if you need some. But high phosphate should not have made your lps shrink. My tank was high and my lps did fine, it was the sps that didn't do so well.

What kind of phosphate test kit are you using? A lot of them are useless. I even question the Hanna Meter (I think that's the high end one), because it has an error of + or - .04

I also agree that your SPS would react to a high phosphate level faster than your LPS.

I have a hang on fuge and a phosban reactor and it's still .1
I have some green tint to my gravel....I don't know what else to do....

I agree with TJ. i have not had much luck with the hanna phosphate meter. even my RO water with zero TDS will read 0.03. Salifert is a bad kit as well but usually because it is not able to read lower phosphates. What is surprising is you have two kits telling you the same thing but the SPS are doing fine. My phosphates always are reading 0.07 with no effect on sps (other than slow growth0 unless i do biweekly 10% water changes and starve my fish and coral and make them both unhappy. So i have decided to just look at my algae problem and react that way. Phosphate has been the toughest one for me amongst all water chemistry issues.
Would like to know what others are doing ?

Did something die? It could have released a toxin or something to mess with the lps. what are your other organics coming in at?

amonia and nitrites 0 my nitrates hang out at about 10 somtimes 15 if i feed heavy. Ya know now that i think about it i had a small green bubble in there i havent seen for a while. I sent my two brains over to some ones house to get baby sat, and they opend right up.
