Ok question. My brother-in-law has a purple tang with hlle. I was wondering if the vitiman c we consume is the same in fish? The reason I ask is he will eat my daughters Gummy-vites They are loaded with vitiman c I have read that hlle is partly caused by a vitiman c def. My other question is, is this ok to feed him this. I have had a saltwater tank for 11 years, I also fish offshore as I live close to the ocean so my fish get a nice varity of fresh food I catch myself, Its hard to beat the real thing IMO. Thanks in advance

clintjj,

My concern would be the dosage level for any fat soluble vitamins that are also in the Gummy-vites, you could easily get the fish an overdose of those.
Also, the vitamin C connection to HLLE was from an old study that did not take into account that simply moving fish to a new tank can resolve this problem, so I'm not convinced that a connection was ever made linking lack of vitamin C and HLLE.

Thanks for your reply. It was a while ago that i read this and didn't know you could move the fish and it might help. I will try moving him to my tank and see what happens.

In a survey I did, (run a Google search on Hemdal HLLE) about 65% of the reported cures of HLLE involved moving the fish to a new tank, and something like 82% involved either moving the fish or removing activated carbon from the tank.
