Hurt Sea Star

Hey Everybody, I made my first purchase from liveaquaria.com and one of the things I bought was a red sea star. When I first looked at him in the bag his arm looked a little hurt but I didn't think it looked too bad. That was yesterday afternoon (9/26). This morning (9/27) when I woke up it looked like half of one of his arms was about to fall off. Now my question is this--is this probably going to kill him or will he regrow it? I know some species of starfish are able to regrow in the wild, but how about this guy in captivity? Thanks a bunch.

How did you acclimate him? From my experice most stars need to be acclimated super super slow, if they are not they will tend to "fall apart" little by littel unti they die.

If it was damage caused by an injury and not from accliamtion then they are capable of healing.

I acclimated him by putting his bag in my tank for about 20 minutes while slowly turning on lights in the room. After I had the lights on I began adding water every couple of minutes until the bag was full. Then I took out about half of it and repeated. I then took him out with a net and put him in the tank.

The thing is he looked hurt when I took him out of his box he was shipped in. Over the night the injury seems to have gotten quite a bit worse.
