I think both salts are reasonable. I don't see the need to pay more for hw.

Any better alternative salts?

Nothing wrong with IO. It may be the closest to natural seawater on the market. However, it doesn't have extra Ca or alk, so you might have to dose more than with some others.

I like the instant ocean, but I do dosing two part. I would need to anyway because of my corals.

I use plain jane IO. It mixes up to just about what my tank levels are at(8.5 DKH, 420 CA, and 1350 MAG). A small amount of muriatic acid to decrease the ALK(usually comes in around 10DKH), small amount of calcium to bump calcium up(usually right around 350). Magnesium is usually in the 1300 to 1400 so no need to adjust. I dose 2 part anyways, so I already have it on hand.

I find it much easier to adjust my WC water to match my tank when dosing 2 part, then to try and use a salt like reef crystals that already mixes up high on the big 3 and keep fiddling with the doser.
