This frag came mounted horizontally to a plug which was unexpected. Do I have to keep it mounted that way? It would be easier to fit it in the rock structure if it was vertical.

Nope, you don't have to keep it that way. Some people mount it that way to speed up grow and have a different growth pattern than if they mount it perpendicular to the plug surface.

Either way it is a tabling coral, so it really does not matter how is mounted, but keep in mind that they do like strong gentle flow.

Since it is a tabling piece, it will grow larger must faster on its side than if it was vertical.

I think I will keep it on it's side. Just looking for the right spot for the red beauty.
