Hi all... Wondering if is it possible to hybridize Seahorse?

For example, H. Kudas with H. Comes?

Becos in our market now(SG), we have CB SH but all are females... The breeder didnt release Male batch to the public...
So was thinking if it is possible to hybridize them...

Thanks...

Best to keep separate species, separate. Such a cheap method of preventing hobbyists from breeding their own would'nt last long. Wait till some people bring in their own seahorses.

For the record it is possible to hybridize seahorses. Many different hobbysist have been succsessful in hybridization. There are serious risks involved.

Do a search on mixing species and you will find some very useful information.

If you choose to do so, please send me a PM.

I agree. I know someone who has successfully bred barbs and whitei together and someone else who has some comes x something. Can't remember for the life of me what they are crossed with at the moment :) Stupid brain. But again, I don't think that it is a practise that should be recommened. Both people are very experienced seahorse keepers.

I guess it is really possible... I wont try to hybridize if there are males around... But normally hybrids are generally more hardy?

People bringing in their own SH... You huh?:D

Not really enough information around to know if they are more hardy or not. They could be. Then again they might not be. It would totally depend what genes are passed on to the offspring. If they wre rabbits we could probally figure it out pretty quickly. However with seahroses, it takes a long time to breed them and they can be quite difficult to raise.

Micheal has a comes Reidi mix SilverTerri.

Kevin

Bro... Is the mix hardy compared to pure species..

They are still just juvies. Part of the only time will tell part.

I do know of keepers with reidi/barbouri hybrids as well as erectus/reidi hybrids, but the comes as fry were the coolest looking seahorse fry ever. It was a reidi with a striped tail. Awesome. The perfect combo of my two favorite seahorses.

And Terriwarry, No. :D
