Hydor Koralia 1

I just recently bought a Koralia 1 jet head, it's suppose to be 400gph. In the past I bought MaxiJet 1200 which are 295 gph. How come the Koralia 1 doesn't seem to create the same water pressure as the MJ 1200?

I can be for a variety of reasons:

1. Flow patterns. The Maxi creates more of a direct flow like a hose while the Koralia tend to spread out their flow more unless you use the flow director ring that came with it.

2. Age. As pumps age, they accumulate junk on the impeller that can cause them to lose power. It might need a good cleaning to help breathe some new life into it.

In your case, I'm leaning towards #1.

It's like when you put your thumb over a garden hose, as you constrict the path of the water the pressure becomes greater. Koralias hardly constrict the flow of the propeller at all resulting in really wide flow.

your good then. The Mj I think does a better job but does not look as nice. The K1 will flow less but over a larger area.
