Hydor Koralia running backwards

Has anyone else had any trouble with a Hydor Koralia Evolution 750 running backwards after it has been shut off? I just discovered mine was running backwards and don't know how long it has been doing so. Now I need to keep turning it on and of a few time to get it running the correct direction.

If you pull the front grill off there should be a small rubber bumper. The impeller if turns in reverse is supposed to hit the bumper and start turning the right direction.
If the bumper is missing or the grill is cracked it can continue running backward.

I pulled mine completely apart and reassembled the powerhead to ensure everything was tight. They are but they are on a wave controller and they make a very large clunck everytime they turn on. I contacted hydor and was told this is normal. I WILL NEVER BUY THEIR POWERHEADS AGAIN!

Actually it is only there 750s that have the backwards running problem from what I have read. I don't get any noise upon start up of either of my 750s, but did have one run backwards the other day. All I had to do was unplug and plug in and all is fine now.

Yeah, you're probably missing the rubber bumper. Happened to both of mine, one I lost the bumper (it fell out) and the other I put it back in. The one I lost the bumper in got really noisy (probably all that turning off & on to make it run right LOL) and we found the impeller magnet was cracked.

could it be that u maybe plugging in the wrong way? it happen to me couple of time n today (feel dumb) lol

I had this problem too. I just bought two secci stream pumps. Problem solved.

Unfortunately the evo line is garbage and hydor knows it. That's why they send you parts for free. The nano evo's work well and so do the magnum line as well as their dc powered powerheads. It just happens to be the evo's that do this continually. I'm not bashing them as I run evo's but I don't dare turn them off unless it's really needed. good thing they are cheap.

Btw. None of their so called "fixes" actually work. I have replaced all parts inside my evo 750s and they still fail to start or start backwards.

i dont have the 750 .i have the next size down.i know this sounds nutts.but mine did the same thing after power outtages.i stuck my finger in there quickly and pushed it the other way.it works after a couple of trys.just be carefull if your going to do this.i tried this method because the finns are soft plastic and i just went for it.no damage.

Hahahaha....:hmm5: You can not plug it in "the wrong way". Its AC (alternating current).
Its the stopper on the inside of front grill that is missing or broken. Contact Hydor for new grills for all that you have. This WILL fix your problem.

I've got 2 evo 1050s that each startup in reverse about half the time. Just have to keep trying to get them going forward. I also have to give them a nice tap on the glass to get them to start. You get what you pay for with these. Nice pumps but they dont last or function 1000%

Problem seems to be fixed. Thanks to all that helped. It was the small rubber bumper in the nose cone was missing. I later remembered that I had found that part a few month ago after cleaning the pump, but, couldn't figure out where it went. Fortunately I stuck it away in hopes of one day figuring out what is was for. So now I have it super glued back in place and the pump now seems to be operating as it shoiuld. Again thanks to all for the help.

My 750's do the same thing. The thud when they hit the rubber bumper drove me crazy so I removed them. They are on 20 sec cycle and run normal about 3rd cycle. I like the alternating flow they make running backwards so I haven't put the bumpers back. If I could get them to not run in reverse on the same cycle I would be much happier.

Emailed hydor, they responded in less than 2 hours. Their customer service is second to none. I will continue to deal with them. I cannot find this type of customer service anywhere.

Hmmmmm.....It's been 5 business days since I contacted Hydor and still haven't heard back.

Guess I'll try again.

Same here. It's been almost a week with no reply. I just emailed again so let's see. After their email, the response you get is in Italian it looks like, and I'm sure I clicked Unites States.

Just hit send on my second email as well. I double checked that I selected 'United States' but I too got what I guess is a confirmation statement in Italian.

just unplug it and plug it back in. it will eventuallly go the correct direction. its one of the problems with a magnetic drive / electrical windings
