Hydor Koralia running backwards

I have 6 of these things, two each of the 1400's, 1050's, and 750's. They have been running continuosly for almost 2 years. Just cleaned them out last weekend. Like any other equipment, they need maintenance, and once every 2 years isn't bad :). The significant parts are that bumper everyone is talking about, and also the bushings. There are two bushings, one on either side of the central rod, held in place by O-rings. Crud/calcification develops in between the bushings, and you have to take everything apart and soak the parts in vinegar to dissolve the calcium. You should have the central impeller, 2 plastic bushings, 2 rubber O-rings, after you take it apart. There are other parts, of course, but these are the most important ones. If any of these are missing or not cleaned, you can have problems. Mine have been running trouble free.

I have 2 of the old Koralia 2 pumps and a new Evo 1050. I have never had them run backwards or give me any problems, I have even run them on a wave maker for a while. Well the oldest K2 is making some noise but still runs strong. I really like the new Evo pumps it was a good improvement on an already good power head. The shaftless design and easy to remove cover make cleaning easy and less wear on the parts. For the price they are great water movers.

I have 3 750 Evo's, two of which are on the Smartwave.

My tank has only been up for about 1.5 months but so far no issues with anything running backward, etc.

Hopefully they will continue to work without any issues!

I just got two new 750's for my 75. They are huge which is annoying but they are silent and don't consume a lot of power. One of them ran backwards for a minute, after a power cycle I haven't had any issues since.

Update: After sending my second email yesterday morning, I received a reply from Hydor later that afternoon and everything has been taken care of. Getting a new impeller in the mail.

So they do have a pretty good customer service which is nice to know.

Sorry for bumping an old thread. My 750 and 1050 just failed on me within a week of each other. I think i have owned them for almost 2 years. Ive cleaned them regularly. I found that the magnet is swollen and cracked. Not very happy with the product. Not sure if its worth replacing with a $10 part or buying an MP40 that will last longer.

Check their website coz I last found a free replacement offer on their site.

The stickers fell off so I have no way of knowing the model number or build number. Is there another place I can find it?

I first replaced mine with a WP-40 and now two Wp-25's and I am very happy with them.

Same thing happens to me. I have to just unplug and plug back in until it works correctly. Never buying from them again.

Edit; And lowefx, it's tricky because I'm pretty sure they are all the same size aren't they?

I don't know. Maybe on the inside. Why don't you contact them first to see if they can do anything for you, before buying any new ones?

Mine also ran backwards. So I tried turning it upside down then it worked fine. Of course it's not ideal but better than spending more $$ on it.

I have three Hydor Koralia 1400/1500 that are all running backwards most of the time (which is hard to understand... I could see 50% of the time, but...)

Anyway - I emailed support at:

hydorusa.office@hydor.com

with my issue and address and they immediately wrote me back and said they would send replacement covers (that presumably solve the problem).

I had a 750 that would always do this. it seems the 1400 and 1500 and 750s I own would always do this.. My 400-450s are way older and have never seized or gone reverse for me.

They said the same thing to me but it's been over a month and I have only seen one out of three replacements for my 3 pumps. Hugely disappointed about the hydor brand.

I'm going through this have 3 1400's and a magnum 7 all the 1400 have to be restarted numerous times for them to go the right way. The magnum will click and run then stop like it has no power. I have to unplug it about ten times for it to finally run

Dump the hydors. Get some WP10 or 25 for cheap or tunze and MPs if you have the cash.
