Has anyone had any experience with this pump? I have a 90 gallon tank (48" long) and I was looking for a nice gentle flow across the whole tank. Can anyone tell me if the hydor koralia 4 is too much flow? I was thinking about getting the hydor koralia 3 just to make sure that I don't get too much flow... but I want enough flow! Can someone please help that has had experience with this pump?

Please and thanks.

ok i just checked my K4 pump from the point of the pump til the currents end(around there) is about 2ft. is not as powerful as the box say but i guess depends on what your tank is hosting. I had it for about 2 months. i like it i guess. is really quiet and uses only 12 watts.!!

I am running a K3 in my 50 gal. It replaced a MJ1200 and I like it much better. I am going to replace the other MJ1200 (on opposite sides of the tank) with another K3 next month. They definately do not have that direct stream of the MJ's but the power is evident.

I would say go for it.

I don't think it's so much that they aren't as powerful as they claim, but the stream is much more diffuse like althemean said. It's better for the corals, but it means that in order to get the same water flow at any one point, you're going to have to push significantly more gph. I love mine!

I have 2 K3's and 2 K2's in my 90 all alternating on timers. It's true that the K3's don't make it all the way across the 48" tank but i have the K3's opposing each other. When their running it makes a hella lot of current...(for about 2 feet each) K4's would be way too much current for my tank.

Go with the Tunze nano:

They are much better IMO. They can also be modded quite easily to produce a very high flow.

Heres the thread to mod it:

I have two K4s, one on each end of my 48" 75 gallon and i don't think it's too much flow. I want to add one more K3 for more flow as I've been adding more sps to the mix.

My brother has 2x K3 on his 36" 58 gallon and it seems perfect but in my opinion I don't think they would be enough for a 48" tank.
