Hydor Magnum??

Hey... Right now I have 2 modded Hydor Koralia 4's, blowing at least double the amount of stock flow.

The thing is, they are ANNOYING!
Ever so often they'll go in reverse and I'll have to try and get it to flow in the normal direction (which isnt as easy as it sounds).

I am thnking about tossing them and throwing in 1 hydor magnum 8, rated at 3250 gph.

I have a 210 gallon softy/lps tank.

Does anyone have any opinions/experience with the new hydor magnums?

thanks!

They're big, but they blow some serious water. I have 2 on the end of my 8ftx2ftx2ft tank and I can only run one at a time because the current is too strong.

There is a 1/2 second or so delay on startup and a single click which I was told was to ensure the prop goes the right way. :)

They are also approved for standard wavemaker timers.

Mine have been running for about 3 months now with no issues. I also have 2 magnum 5s: one in the 100g sump running 24/7 and one I just fired up yesterday in the 55g salt mix tank.

Here are some photos for size comparison..8's and 5's are the same size, but that's an 8 in the photo:

Vortechs take up a LOT less space in the tank, but they have no angle delivery control and they're designed to be on the sides of your tank, not the back. I had also heard of problems with them and ultimately I didn't feel like dealing with it. I have an easy way to hide the bulkiness of the koralias with my layout.

Tunze Streams are nice too, but pricey. I went with Koralias because ThatFishPlace has 40% off coupons in the mail to use in the store on weekdays. Bought a skimmer that way too. :)
