hydor smart level controller, supposedly works based on temperature?

it looks like the thing has multiple temperature sensors and it uses the temperature difference between tank water and sump air to trigger the ATO pump. doesn't that seem incredibly unreliable? what if you've got a chiller in the sump cabinet, or some other source of warm air? or what if its a hot day and you left the window open? or what if your tank is just the same as your room temp?

maybe the article is not fully explaining it. like, maybe the sensors create small bursts of heat with tiny resistive elements and then if they cool quickly, they're underwater, and if they stay hot, they're in air.

any thoughts?

well, it seems like the site i linked to is censored. thats a shame.

just go to When a site is censored, that means they're not welcome on here. Creative means to circumvent the censor isn't welcome either. -RC Staff

It isn't a new concept and for hydors sake I hope theirs works better then the other attempts.

we know what site that is  no need to circumvent the block.

^ oh ok haha i didnt know others knew.

any info about the other attempts? i am curious. thanks.

edit - just realized the same temperature would not lead to a flood, it would just lead to no new water. the chance of the temp staying exactly the same for long enough for the tank to actually suffer from no new top off has got to be pretty minimal.
