These are both very large, very powerful pumps.

Has anyone compared their performance and output?

The Hydro Wizard claims 500W @ 200,000 liters/hr = 53,000 GPH @ $5600
= 106GPH/W

The Tunze 6580 claims 420W @ 80,000 liters/hr = 21,000 GPH @ $3700
= 50GPH/W
 
When the Tunze was mentioned in that other thread the other day, I was going to mention the ECM 75.. That thing has INSANE flow!! 50,000 GPH.. The biggest Tunze is something like 35,000 GPH. Truly insane. Those pumps are truly something to marvel. I know people with that tiny hydowizard and even those things produce some amazing flow for a pump that can fit in the palm of you hand.

You have to marvel at the power of both those giant Tunze's and the Hydro Wizards. There is nothing made that rivals their performance.
 
They are very powerful. I posted a video of the Long Island aquarium's 20,000 gal living reef and the curator uses the hydro wizard.

I'm curious about the real flow and the real power per gph.
 
Hey mate, I use a lot of the hydro wizard's at work and I find them faultless. They are powerful, quiet, and the controller is great. The slave function works really well, and iver the last 2-3 years we have had no issues what so ever. The only problems we have had were small turbos getting in and smashing the propellers. But a simple plastic cage fixes that. They also have a good self clean function that helps blow algae off the cage. They do have quite a hot spot of flow, so make sure you place it somewhere in the tank where it doesn't blow the flesh of the coral. I tend to set them up to get gyre's going and works well for me. good luck
 
True, but the 42 is significantly lower flow. I'd need ~ 33 of those little ones vs. 2 of the 75. The big ones are actually more economical and efficient :)
