Hey everyone, its been a while since I posted due to a tank crash last summer :( Anywho, I'm getting back into things and need some advice on how to kill hydroids. Yet another bane. Anyone with frags they'd like to donate/sell would be welcome too. Dont have much to trade, except for a nice bonsai frag.

PS whens the next frag swap in CA?

Thanks in advance.

Tagging along, I have hydroids too and I would like to know what people say.

I have heard boiling water in a seringe, and kalk paist. The kalk did not work for me, I have not tried the water yet.

I just spent the last hour researching these.

Some say kalk
Some say pepperment shrimps
Some say they will go away on their own
Some say pluck them out with tweezers

some say NOTHING will help. i have a lot of then and hate them.

do a search for hydroids and my name and there is a hydroid thread.

Lunch I don't think I have the kind that look like aiptasia. Mine look like a strand of hair. Did you say you had both types?

Yea I've epoxy'd over a good portion of them, but then, they friggin sprang up out of nowhere again!! I remember once I raised the DKH in my system to like 12 and they seem to shrivel up and die, as the DKH dropped they cam back tho.. bastards!

Tweezing them sounds like PITA!! forget that!

I've never heard of using peppermint shrimps for hydroid, I thought they were for aptisia. I wonder if joes juice would work?
kalking sounds like the easiest thing to do, but how do i friggin inject something that small with a syringe? plus if I use too much, wont kalk kill stuff? its a 20G L so I can't over do it..

CAM, you were right dude, I should have snuffed out that small colony when you said, its not all over the place, but it still sucks.

Suggestions?

I used to have them - added a Potters Angel and a Regal Angel - no more hydroids. Not sure if one them is responsible or if it was something else.

my sallylightfoot took care of the patches i had there is no trace of them. i do have a major majano problem though any thoughts on these things?

Sallylightfoot crab eh? Joe's Juice is good for Majano. you just syringe the juice into the "mouth" and voila..

Can someone describe the kalk method? Is there a ratio of water to kalk?

When I had piece of live rock with hydroids the only thing that worked was a week long freshwater dip  .

i seen a few on a piece of LR a few weeks ago. i took it out and boiled that ***** for 20 minutes. there are a few on the base of my candy cane coral. i shot them w/ boiling water and kalk. killed thoses but there's still a few more on that coral i need to take care of. i don't know anyway to 100% kill them 4 SURE, other than boiling the LR they are on, but some LR cannot be removed due to support issues. i've read that if u pluck while in tank, they will spread, but i don't know who figured that out.
