Can anyone give me some info on hydroids i have a couple of questions so first ill start out asking if anyone knows is there a medusa stage to digitate hydroids? That looks similar to colonial hydroids except tiny and clear not red.? Also is there a nudibranch or other organism that feast on these? Also has anybody remedied a actual way to eliminate them?? And then last question im setting up a large 8ft 250 gallon reef most of the corals have been growing out in a 30 long that has the hydroids. Is there any way im going to be able to transfer anything from 30 to 250 with out contaminating the 250 with these droids. There are probably 3 dozen differet highend coral species frpm acros and montis to chalice and polypsi anting to eventually transfer over can any body give me advice on what they would do in this situation. Thanks in advance any help greatly appreciated

pictures will help identify
do not transfer, they will spread

for the colonials, i dug and scraped and appear to have won. i've heard you can also use the stuff to glue corals to cover the area and essentially "bury them alive"

people suggest burning the rock, breaking off the affected pieces and just tossing out the affected rock

Ill try to get picture up. Thanks for the info im gonna look into this hydrox. And the problem is these things are every where so most of those methods wouldnt work there so tiny you dobt even see them unless your looking for them they dont affect much when touching corals other than making polyps irritated. Ill find a picture to see if someone can help me out

If you can find it, the old "fluke tabs" will kill them and all other soft corals (leathers, xeniids, star polyp). That product is long since discontinued but one of the active ingredients works on hydroids. I believe the seahorse forum lists it as well somewhere. The available ingredient is listed somewhere in the "fluke tabs solved my blue clove problem" thread. I've been meaning to look it up myself for a while as I have some hydroids that are irritating a lot of corals in my DT. I do not know if softies are affected by this other med.

Thank you im going to continue. Some extensive research and try some diff expirements. Im probably gonna try this hydrox as well im just worried about all my sps if i remedy my problem i will post any info i have. If any body has more to add feel free please. Thanks for the help to all eho have posted i think im getting somewhere

Im currently in a fight against these damn things...

From my extensive research, Ive been told that these come into the aquarium frequently from live brine shrimp hatching. They are common among sea horse keepers, and that keyhole limpets are used to eat them. There is also a sea hare known to eat them called a blunt end sea hare (Dolabella auricularia), I have not been able to find key hole limpets for sale to try them, and I havent attempted to buy a blunt end sea hare yet either. If you happen to find either in stock, please share this info with me and ill give them a shot.

You may have hit the nail on the head with this. I did do a round of fluke tabs on my tank to kill off blue clove polyps.

Not for nothen but, i have them as well. Except the ones i have have much thicker tubes and the heads are bright green and are colonial. They actually look really nice. I have a green monti that is growing out next to one colony. They did nothing to the monti but the monti mowed right over the colony and now it's gone. So....i dunno.

i have them in areas, never cause any issues or grew out of control, i have several other types as well that dont impact much either.
