hydroids

I have some hydroids on and around my zoos... they are irritating my zoos causing them to close/die off. How can I get rid of them? Freshwater dip?
how is this done? must the zoos be closed before dipping? how long to dip for?
Thanks

Only way I was able to get rid of them was let them run their coarse. They are nuisance once they get hold. Watch your nutrient levels and hand pick as many as you can around your zoanthids. I literally had them growing on the stalks of my zoas. All gone now, they eventually fizzle out same way as flatworms do.
Hopefully someone here might have a cure though. I never found one except to, as I stated above, keep my nutrient load low and let them run their course.
Unfortunately the hydroids close same as the zoas and are not affected by dips, at least by nothing that will not harm your zoas.
Good luck.

IME kalk paste is a temporary fix for the hydroids that are actually a real nuisance. Super glue/epoxy works for good as does a blow torch.

Yes, I really have used a blow torch on them and gsp both. Crazy thing is the gsp eventually returned. Im not kidding. Must have had a couple scraps of the stuff down in the rocks that didnt get cooked quite well enough. Didnt make it through the second time though :)

I would opt for the superglue. I had too many to use kalk. Would have nuked the tank. Super glue would have been a mess too though there were so many. I basically left them alone only removing the ones with tweezers that were bothering my prized zoas. They all vanished in a couple months time though so all was well. Why they all went away I am not certain, I was informed not to panic but let them run their course and they would eventually die-off.

they seemed to be continually cycling in my tank (waxing and waning). I usually let them run their course, but when they threaten a 3 polyp high end zoa frag is when I get concerned. I guess I'll have to give those methods a shot... thanks
